| Kinikia- Founded DC Hippodrome Variety Show Ent., LLC in 2009 and incorporated the company in 2010 as an LLC in Virginia. Kinikia learned the art of Polynesian dance from private lessons in Hawaii and Tahiti and from group classes in Northern Virginia as well as performed for other luau entertainment groups. Kinikia performed freelance dance since 2000 after graduating from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County with a B.A. in Visual and Performing Arts degree and writing minor. She was able to put her child centered background in teaching towards a successful Toddler Ballet program at Glen Echo Park, 2006-current where she also teaches belly dance and have taught hula and poi previously as well. Kinikia was featured in St. Thomas' first belly dance concert with Jasmin Jahal of Chicago in 2005. She enjoys integrating both fire dance and aerial art in her shows as well In 2002 Kinikia joined Synetic Theater. She performed in the premier of a play entitled Host and Guest in DC at the Stanislovsky Theater as Nestani which received rave reviews. In 2003 she joined the only traveling dance and theater company that toured via tallship across the world for their production of "Red Tides" performed on board the ship the Amara Zee the Caravan Stage Company. The performance took place on deck which was transformed into a stage while docked at over 20 cities including Jacksonville, Fl - Erie, PA- Baltimore, MD- St.Louis, MO- Traverse City, MI- Canada- Lafitte, LA- Norfolk, VA and many more. She performed fire dance, modern dance and acrobatics while dancing on a moving tower and off of the ship itself. Kinikia performed with the Silk Road Dance Company. She performed group and solo dances with the company in high profile venues such as The Kennedy Center, The National Theater, the Egyptian Embassy, Dance Place, Joe's Movement Emporium, The Uzbekistan Embassy, George Washington University and many more. Her corps dance performance was from 2003-2005 with the Silk Road Dance Company. She has been a guest artist for the second production of Haft Paykar reprising her role as the Sandalwood Princess and as a guest artist for the Asian Cup Opening Ceremonies held in Doha, Qatar in 2010. Kinikia has performed for small and large artists such as R&B artist "Emily" 2004, Gwar 2003, Ciara concert 2011.Kinikia's love of dance and cultures continues to inspire her and she wishes to cultivate that passion for her children Lani and Webster. Her constant source of strength comes from her loving husband Doug and all of her art loving family some of whom have also performed with her. |
